Ernesto has lost its tropical characteristics this evening, with most of its convection dissipating in strong upper-level winds over ocean temperatures cooler than 20C. Extratropical transition is expected tomorrow as it races northeast and continues to interact with an upper-level trough approaching from the west. The remnants of Ernesto should merge with a frontal system over Ireland and the United Kingdom in about 36 hours.
